The Himalayan Institute partners with Moondog Yoga Studio offering this comprehensive and in-depth program. Join your Moondog teachers and HI faculty to deepen your understanding of the yoga tradition, expand your personal yoga practice, and discover your full potential as a yoga teacher.
Dive into a life-changing course of study to deepen your understanding of the yoga tradition, and your own personal yoga practice. Drawing from ancient yoga theory and modern knowledge of the body and mind, this program covers the complete scope of yoga practice: yamas and niyamas (lifestyle guidelines), asana (postures), pranayama (breath training), pratyahara (sense withdrawal), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation), and samadhi (self-realization). Our exceptional and dedicated teaching team comes from diverse backgrounds and offers over 100 years of combined experience in the practice and teaching of yoga.

This 200-hour certification program is a unique, completely immersive experience, from which you will emerge a capable, confident, and effective yoga teacher

Course Content Overview
I. How to practice and teach all major classes of Asanas

Principles of structural alignment
Principles of energetic alignment
Anatomy and physiology for yoga teachers
Yoga model of the subtle (pranic) body
Structuring and sequencing classes
Practice teaching in small and large groups

II. How to practice and teach pranayama, pratyahara, and meditation

Systematic breath training
Pranayama practice and teaching
Relaxation techniques and teaching
Theory and practice of meditation

III. Understanding and Applying Yoga Philosophy and Yoga Psychology

Study of the Yoga Sutra
Study of the Bhagavad Gita
The Yogic Model and Functions of the mind
Introduction to Sanskrit

Certification
Participants who complete the program receive Yoga Teacher Certification from the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association (HITA) and are also eligible to apply for the 200-hour level of registration (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. Certification requirements include: full attendance in the training intensive, required reading, knowledge assessments, and two written assignments to be completed after the training intensive: a 30-day meditation journal and a teaching self-evaluation of 12 hours taught. Most participants complete their certification requirements in six months to one year. All participants must complete certification requirements within two years in order to receive certification.
