Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Corina Benner

April 20 - April 23

Dive (Y)In! Yin Yoga already challenges you to sink deeper into your hips and spine than you believed was possible. In this training you will plunge deeper into the system, seeking to understand key concepts necessary to teach safe, effective and powerful Yin Yoga classes. This training will focus on the incredibly therapeutic benefits of yin yoga on the physical and energetic bodies (the Annamaya Kosha and the Pranamaya Kosha).

We will investigate the foundational shapes of yin yoga, seeking to understand the method of this practice, and exploring appropriate ways of modifying poses to meet individual students’ needs. Included in the training are daily yin yoga practices, and opportunities to work in partners and small groups for practical experience applying the information. You will viscerally integrate the information so that, upon completion, you will feel confident teaching yin yoga and also fielding students’ questions with confidence and true clarity.

Topics to be addressed:
• Theory of Yin/Yang/Tao and how these concepts are embedded in the practice, and are vastly illuminating in a quest for balance
• Tension and Compression, two of yoga’s primary stressors • Anatomy & Physiology: Bones, Muscles, Fascia and Organs • Anatomical Uniqueness and “Inside-Out Alignment”
• Nadis/Meridians, Breath Practices for Yin Yoga
• Teaching Methodologies, Contraindications, and tailoring the practice to different populations.

This training is open to yoga teachers of all traditions as well as curious and dedicated yin yoga students. Participants will receive a certificate of completion which can be applied as “Continuing Education Units” (CEU’s) for Registered Yoga Teachers.

Dates & Times:
Thursday, April 20, 6-9pm
Friday – Sunday, April 21-23, 9-5pm

* Note from Corina: This weekend is Module I: the Bones & the Breath, Anatomy and Physiology of Yin Yoga. This will prepare teachers to begin teaching safe, effective and powerful yin yoga classes, and help them really understand how and why to practice this way, and how to adapt the poses to suit all students.
About Corina Benner: Corina has been teaching vinyasa yoga since 1999 and yin yoga since 2004. Called “Sunshine Buddha” by her students, Corina’s positive vibrations and contagious optimism empower students to practice with enthusiasm, while her detailed instruction, poetic language and intelligent sequencing create a safe space for self-discovery, increased energy and genuine joyfulness. Corina views asana practice as an entry-point to self-study and weaves the tenets of yoga philosophy into her teaching, inspiring students to discover the liberating potential of this practice, both on and off the mat. She is eternally grateful to her primary teachers Cyndi Lee, Paul & Suzee Grilley, and Buddhist meditation teacher Michael Carroll. She learned about integrity, authenticity and playfulness from her root teacher, Cyndi Lee. Paul and Suzee Grilley taught her about energy meridians, anatomical uniqueness and the power and necessity of personal practice. And from Michael Carroll, her meditation teacher, she continues to learn about the tenderness, courage and vulnerability required to fully realize what it means to be human. Corina Benner, RYT-500, Director of Wake Up Yoga, wholeheartedly believes that the ancient practice of yoga perfectly complements our modern pursuit of vibrant health, personal fulfillment, harmonious relationships and spiritual enrichment.
